SESSION ABSTRACT


This session will recount one district's journey through Responsiveness to Instruction (RtI) to a Multi-Tiered System of Support with emphasis on the core, meeting structures, and instructional rounds.


PRESENTER INFORMATION


Dr. Lesa B. Widener is the Title I Director for Caldwell County Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts degree in School Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Lesa has previously taught first, second, and fourth grades, served as a curriculum coach, an assistant principal, and the Title I Instructional Facilitator before becoming the Title I Director. As a member of the district team, she and her colleagues have worked collaboratively with the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Support. Her dissertation incorporated instructional rounds in education as a support to this model.

Jamie Ingle is the ESL Program Director for Caldwell County Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and English and a Master of Arts degree in School Administration. Prior to accepting her current position as ESL Program Director, Jamie served as a high school, middle school and elementary school Spanish teacher. She has also taught adults enrolled in GED programs and immigrant adults seeking American citizenship. Jamie is a member of the district team which supports the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Support. Based on her experiences with students over the years, Jamie believes in universal design of learning and that a Multi-Tiered System of Support provides an efficient way to plan and deliver appropriate instruction for all students.

Susan S. Walker serves as the Title I Parent and Program Developer for Caldwell County Schools. She has previously taught kindergarten and second grade, as well as worked as a Curriculum Coach. Susan is a member of the district team supporting the Multi-Tiered System of Support, as well as a trainer for Foundations of Mathematics and Foundations of Reading. She has presented at local, regional, state, and national conferences.
