SESSION ABSTRACT


In this session we will examine the process of moving to Common Core with a collaborative focus. We will go through the process that was used to create a collaborative and rigorous shift into the new standards while staying focused on high expectations and student growth.


PRESENTER INFORMATION


Cindy Wells has 20 years of experience as an Exceptional Children teacher in Ashe County. She is a trainer for Reading Foundations and a trainer of trainer of Mentors. She is also a member of the county wide team that participated initial NCDPI Common Core- Summer Institute trainings.

Courtney Eller is a second grade teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary School in Ashe County. She has a master’s as a literacy specialist and is National Board Certified in Literacy.

Jamie Little is the K-6 Curriculum Coordinator in Ashe County. She taught 11 years prior to this position in elementary school. She has her Master of Arts in Elementary Education and is National Board Certified in Early Education. Mrs. Little is a member of the county wide team that participated in the initial NCDPI Summer Institute trainings.

OBJECTIVES / LEARNING TARGETS


Participants will:
• Learn about successful planning process components for district wide implementation.
• Examine well aligned pacing guides for grades K-12.
• See how resources were obtained and proved to be useful across all grade levels.
• Learn the importance of vertical alignment within pacing guides.
• Reflect on current pacing guides and determine areas for future professional development needs.
• Begin work on a district Professional Development Calendar.
