SESSION ABSTRACT


This session will explain how to organize a PLC to analyze ACT data and develop school-wide strategies to work on ACT content areas. We will share activities that were implemented at our high school such as daily warm-ups, focused lessons, afterschool sessions, and student incentives to increase student performance on the ACT.


PRESENTER INFORMATION


Crystal Hoke has served as Assistant Principal at Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville since 2009. Previously, she was an Exceptional Children's Teacher at Alexander Central and Ellendale Elementary in Alexander County. Hoke received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Exceptional Children and Licensure in School Administration from Appalachian State. Mrs. Hoke was named the Alexander County Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006 and received National Board Certification in 2006. Outside of school, Mrs. Hoke enjoys spending time with her husband and two very active sons (Graham who is 5 and Nolan who is 4).

Lindsay Cox is a 2004 graduate of Appalachian State University and a NC Teaching Fellow. She is a high school math teacher with a BS and MA of Secondary Mathematics Education and received her National Board Certification in 2010. She has been teaching at Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, NC for ten years. During these ten years she has been a volleyball coach at ACHS for 9 and is now in charge of the Alexander Aces Club travel volleyball program. She and her husband, Derek, reside in Lenoir and enjoy spending time with their 3 year old son, Caden.
